Kyoto, Japan (August 2026)- The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) will open MoMA Design Store, Kyoto at a new location within Kyoto Takashimaya S.C. [T8] on Friday, September 4, 2026. A global destination for good design, MoMA Design Store extends the Museum's mission by making exceptional design accessible to a global audience.
MoMA Design Store Kyoto will be located in Kyoto Takashimaya S.C. [T8], a distinctive retail destination that seamlessly connects all floors of the Takashimaya Kyoto store, which opened in October 2023, and complex brings together a wide range of popular brands.
The design brings together traditional Japanese aesthetics and MoMA's innovative spirit through traditional Japanese joinery techniques, wooden elements, and a spatial design that evokes the feeling of wandering through Kyoto's alleys. Moss and bamboo-inspired green tones bring lightness and vitality to the space, making this the first MoMA Design Store in Japan to feature color so prominently.
Located in Kawaramachi, one of Kyoto's main shopping areas, MoMA Design Store, Kyoto will serve as a destination for local customers and continue to meet the needs of domestic and international visitors.
The store features more than 600 design items, including home goods, fashion items, and artist products.
To celebrate the reopening, we will also offer Kyoto-exclusive items, pre-release products, and special in-store gifts available on a first-come, first-served basis.

These pocket-sized notebooks from Kyoto-based brand Karasuma Rokuhichido feature the brand's signature "Mount Fuji" and "Crane" designs, reimagined with the MoMA logo in exclusive new colorways. Limited to 600 sets.
This pocket-sized notebook features a custom cover crafted using a washi paper collage technique. Once the notebook is filled, the cover can be reused as a book sleeve for other pocket-sized books.
